Before becoming one of the most respected names in global electronic music, Kerri Chandler simply accompanied his father to his gigs. His father, a well-known DJ in New Jersey, introduced him to soul, disco, and New York underground influences from an early age. At age 13, the young Kerri was already spinning his first records at the Rally Record Club, a racket club in East Orange. On September 13, 2026, this deep house legend will set up his gear at the Rex Club, Paris’s oldest techno institution, for a night that the organizers have simply titled “Legends.”
The pioneer of deep house at Paris’s oldest club
Considered one of the founding fathers of deep house, Kerri Chandler made a name for himself in the early 1990s thanks to a recognizable sound featuring tracks that incorporate piano, trumpet, or flute—often played and sung by Chandler himself. A resident DJ at the legendary Club Zanzibar in Newark, he has also remixed soul classics— from Marvin Gaye to Nina Simone—infusing his music with sounds drawn from the jazz and gospel of his childhood.
Founded in 1992 by Laurent Garnier, the Rex Club on the Grands Boulevards has established itself over the decades as one of the most influential clubs in the electronic music scene. Redesigned in 1995 to become 100% dedicated to electronic music, and then equipped in 2006 with an innovative sound system featuring more than sixty speakers, the club has hosted Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Daft Punk, Justice, and Richie Hawtin behind its turntables. Kerri Chandler is a longtime regular there.
