Voted “France’s favorite village” in 2017, this charming eastern town is also known for hosting Alsace’s finest Christmas market. Just a few hours from Paris by train, this nugget is the perfect place for a magical holiday getaway!
The most charming Christmas village is just a train ride from Paris
As winter approaches, the famous village of Kaysersberg undergoes a metamorphosis. Its half-timbered houses, cobblestones and alleyways are adorned with lights and garlands, and become the setting for a Christmas market that exudes authentic Alsace. For 2025, the famous Christmas market opens its chalets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, over four weekends from November 28 to December 21. Workshops, Christmas exhibitions, a friendly atmosphere and traditional decor… everything is in place to offer a moment out of time.
In the heart of this medieval city, some thirty chalets make up the market, nestled in the courtyard of the Arsenal and behind the Sainte-Croix church. Wooden toys, Christmas decorations, glassware, sculpted candles, as well as pottery and origami creations: each stand bears witness to carefully selected craftsmanship. For those with a sweet tooth, the farmers’ market on Place de la Mairie offers local specialities such as honey, gingerbread, jams, cheeses, organic wines, terrines, syrups and homemade fruit juices. And don’t forget to sample local delicacies such as kougelhopfs, berawackas and manalas.
The Kaysersberg Christmas market is also a lively affair, with an exhibition on the theme of “Christmas fabrics in Alsace”, providing an insight into local textile history. Concerts are scheduled on Sundays, as are craft and culinary workshops.
With its blend of tradition, craftsmanship and gourmet delights, this 2025 edition of the Kaysersberg Christmas Market promises an enchanted interlude, far from the hustle and bustle of Paris. Like Strasbourg and Colmar, Kaysersberg is an unmissable stop-off point for some of Alsace’s finest Christmas markets.
