As the year draws to a close, the summer sun that warmed us in the morning gives way to the cool autumn air. As the leaves begin to rustle and fall, all we can think about is finding some comforting activity. Some will curl up in a cozy plaid, others will prepare their best pumpkin spice latte… And then there are those who simply want a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Paris. And that’s exactly what we’re proposing today! We’re heading for Alsace, and Riquewihr to be exact. One of the most colorful villages in France. With its picturesque alleyways and half-timbered houses typical of the region, you’re in for a real treat!
Riquewihr: one of France’s most colorful villages

Located around 2 h-2 h 30 by train, Riquewihr is a real feast for the eyes. This magnificent, colorful village is undoubtedly one of the most colorful in France. You’ll love exploring every nook and cranny of this charming medieval village. Between its flower-decked facades, half-timbered houses, fountains and cobblestones… Riquewihr seems straight out of a fairy tale. So it’s hardly surprising that Disney ‘s animation team were bewitched by the place. So much so, in fact, that they drew inspiration from it to create the world of Beauty and the Beast. And it wasn’t just this village that inspired the team. Eguisheim, Colmar and Loire castles such as Chambord also played a major role.

Barely 1,000 inhabitants year-round, this village surrounded by centuries-old ramparts is also located on the Alsace Wine Route! An open-air paradise for epicureans and lovers of fine wines, where the excellence of the region’s winemaking expertise is unquestionable.
What to do in Riquewihr

Just admiring the colorful alleyways is an activity in itself! This medieval village is so photogenic that you’ll sometimes feel like you’re in a living painting. But there are a few cultural things to do. For example, you can visit the local wineries, and taste vintages from the most famous cellars, such as Gewurztraminer or Riesling. And of course, in winter, it’s the inevitable Christmas market that sets the pace for local activity. And believe us, the atmosphere is truly magical, with nothing to envy the region’s most famous. A number of museums, such as La Tour des Voleurs and the Maison de Vignerons, will take you back in time…
An enchanting, postcard-perfect village not to be missed!
