Do you too dream of finding a little peace and quiet? For those lucky enough to have a car, there are a number of beautiful lakes to discover over a weekend in the vicinity of Paris, some of them with lovely beaches. But let’s face it, not everyone has the car to get away from it all. Luckily for you, we’ve found a little nugget just 1 hour from Paris: France’s largest river beach. And best of all, you can get there with your Navigo pass. Isn’t that great?
France’s largest river beach

L’Isle-d’Adam is one of the Val-d’Oise’s natural gems, well known to lovers of nature and tranquillity. Renowned for its tranquil, restful setting, it has always been a favorite weekend getaway for Parisians. It’s hardly surprising, then, that some of the most influential intellectuals of our time used to meet here. Painters such as Fragonard and Dupré, as well as writer Balzac, were all inspired by the area. Jules Dupré painted many pictures here, including “Le Pêcheur” (The Fisherman), which alone testifies to the serenity of the place.

But when the weather’s hot, you’ll want to head for the pretty river beach. This charming little “seaside resort” on the banks of the River Oise boasts cabins dating back to the XIXᵉ century, restored since 2015. And I might as well tell you right now, you’re not going to be bored!

With its two waterslides and large riverside pool, you won’t be short of coolness. And if splashing around in the water isn’t your thing, the resort has everything you need to have fun: a mini-golf course, a tennis court, two beach volleyball courts, ping-pong tables, paddle…
A hidden beach… and a magnificent park

In addition to the river beach, we recommend a stroll through the Parc de Cassan. The latter hides a curiosity: a magnificent Chinese pavilion, dating back to the Age of Enlightenment. A magnificent building nestled on the edge of a lake, perfect for a cool stroll.
