In Paris (and around the world), we all know Gustave Eiffel. Made famous throughout France and beyond for his magnificent Tower, inaugurated on March 31, 1889 at the Universal Exhibition, Gustave Eiffel was an engineer of genius. But what many people don’t know is that the industrialist didn’t stop at his Iron Lady. He created over 500 works of art across the globe, some of which you can see in and around Paris: pavilions, footbridges, bridges… and a few little-known nuggets! Here’s an overview of Monsieur Eiffel’s finest achievements.
The Avre footbridge

On the heights of Saint-Cloud lies a little-known marvel of the engineer’s: a footbridge offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside… and the Eiffel Tower. Very popular with joggers and cyclists alike, this large footbridge makes for an extremely pleasant stroll. It was even designed by Gustave Eiffel himself , who worked on the perspective so that onlookers could enjoy his tower. You’re sure to love it!

The glass roofs of La Grande Cascade restaurant

Gourmets will be familiar with this beautiful address in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne. Napoleon III’s former hunting lodge was transformed into a gourmet restaurant for the 1900 Universal Exhibition. This magnificent Belle Epoque building boasts large glass windows designed by Gustave Eiffel. Thanks to them, the restaurant is illuminated all day long!

Le Shack

This 1,500 m² former printing works, hidden away in the 9ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, is clearly worth a visit. The great hall of the Lycée Carnot
This magnificent lycée in Paris’s 17th arrondissement hides a secret. An immense hall, 80 meters high and 30 meters wide, topped by a magnificent glass roof designed by Gustave Eiffel. A sublime place, to be discovered during Heritage Days in Paris.

The iron house at Dampierre-en-Yvelines

This surprising Iron House, built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition by the Eiffel workshops, is very surprising. Inspired by the colonial era, it is made entirely of metal, and its unusual appearance is astonishing. Listed as a historic monument, it adds an atypical touch to the local heritage and intrigues visitors in search of unusual discoveries.
