Eating on the train: an art form? A free, organized exhibition at Ground Control explores railway dining from yesterday to today, through a collection of archives, contemporary images and objects!
An exhibition on railway meals at Ground Control
Are you more of a home-cooked snack or a menu ordered from the bar car in car 12? On a speeding Paris-Marseille train, every passenger has his or her own eating habits! You don’t eat on the train the same way you would anywhere else, and it’s precisely these specificities and the world of rail meals that are highlighted in an exhibition of photographs! Food-Express – Photographies d’une cuisine en mouvement arrives at Ground Control for a culinary and visual stopover until early October!
Railway meals, past and present
The ham and butter you swallowed on the train this weekend deserves your full attention! More than just a snack, it’s part of the great history of railway meals. An exhibition is currently on show at Ground Control, featuring archive photos, contemporary images and objects that look back on decades of train meals, their imaginary world, rituals and visual universe!

This free exhibition will take visitors back in time to the 80s, with a series of offbeat photos of meal breaks taken at the Grill-Express restaurant or in the bar car of the TGV Atlantique. These images, relics of the past, will be contrasted with more contemporary images of snacks and meals served on TGVs – a rare opportunity to retrace the evolution of our eating habits!
📍 Venue: Ground Control – 81, rue du Charolais, 75012 Paris
📆 Date: July 10 to October 5, 2025
🎟️ Price: free admission
