It was one of the symbols of the 13th arrondissement. The Joséphine Baker swimming pool allowed millions of Parisians to swim “on the Seine” for 20 years. Some went there regularly with their families, while others learned to swimthere. But after two decades, Paris’s most remarkable swimming pool is closing its doors for good.
The Joséphine Baker floating pool is closing
It was supposed to remain in service for 15 years, but it ultimately lasted 20. The Joséphine Baker floating pool is closing due to severe deterioration. Situated on a concrete barge, the vessel was required to undergo very strict inspections every five years to ensure it remained in good condition.
But in 2021, the verdict is in: the pool has reached the end of its life. The barge has warped, the structure has some leaks and corrosion issues, and a complete renovation would cost the city far too much to save it…

While the official closing date for the pool has not yet been announced, it is expected to remain open at least until spring 2027, according to Le Parisien, subject to safety conditions…
For those who particularly loved this spot, note that just a few steps away,a swimming area in the Seine will reopen in July —and it’s free.
