Every summer, a few Parisian venues transform into open-air movie theaters. But few can boast of being located right behind the wings of the Moulin Rouge . Starting in mid-July, the Bar à Bulles—the hidden rooftop of La Machine du Moulin Rouge—will host a new edition of its now-famous Cinéma sur le Toit.
Movie nights every Wednesday evening
Far from the hustle and bustle of Boulevard de Clichy, this rooftop garden nestled in the unassuming Cité Véron offers one of the most unique settings in the capital. For several weeks, moviegoers will be able to settle into lounge chairsto enjoy outdoor screenings, headphones on and a cocktail in hand.
Launched in 2019, this small film festival has gradually established itself as one of the most beloved summer events for Parisian film buffs. Each year, the lineup blends cinema classics, independent films, and lesser-known works, with a special focus on the diversity of the selected directors.
For the 2026 edition, ten screenings are scheduled between mid-July and mid-September, with one showing every Wednesday evening. As in previous years, the screenings will be free, subject to availability.
Part of the event’s charm lies in the venue’s atmosphere. Over the years, the Bar à Bulles has become a unique destination in the Parisian landscape. Its green terrace, views of the Pigalle rooftops, intimate ambiance, and varied cultural programming have helped it build a loyal following that extends far beyond movie lovers.
While open-air movie theaters spring up every summer in the capital, the Moulin Rouge’s venue retains an advantage that’s hard to replicate: watching a movie under the stars in one of Paris’s most iconic locations.
