Jacques Prévert was one of the greatest poets of our time. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, he spent much of his life in Montmartre, just behind the Moulin Rouge. An apartment frozen in time, where he created his most beautiful poems, invited friends and which you can still visit… at least, until 2026. Because the famous cabaret is planning to expand, and the lease on Prévert’s apartment, which he owns, will not be renewed this time…
Jacques Prévert’s apartment under threat…
It’s one of Montmartre’ s most precious assets… and one of its least well-known. The apartment of the illustrious poet Jacques Prévert, located at 6 bis de la cité Véron, is a jewel to visit for all culture lovers! In an unspoilt setting, you’ll discover his workshops, his study and the apartment where he lived for several years… Everything, from objects to posters, seems to have been frozen in time, and you’ll understand the importance of his works, which lulled the childhoods of thousands of children with his mischievous verve. An invaluable visit, which unfortunately is under threat…

Indeed, the Moulin Rouge (which also owns the premises) has a major project to extend the famous cabaret. Unfortunately, Jacques Prévert’s former apartment is directly affected. On March 31, 2026, it will have to be vacated so that the cabaret can carry out the necessary work before opening its new rooms. The apartment of Boris Vian, Prévert’s next-door neighbor, is in the same situation…

A great loss for the neighborhood and for all Parisians! In order to preserve this cultural landmark, the poet’s granddaughter, Eugénie Bachelot-Prévert , has launched a petition against the expansion project. To date, the petition has received no fewer than 38,000 signatures. You too can sign the petition here to protect this piece of our living heritage.
