February is just around the corner, but the temperatures are not about to rise. So to cheer you up, we’ve found a lovely place in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. Au Roi du Pot-au-Feu is a slightly old-fashioned restaurant with “old France” charm that hasn’t changed a bit in over 50 years. You may not notice it as much as others, but Au Roi du Pot-au-Feu is a place that will leave a lasting impression.
Au Roi du Pot-au-Feu: the best pot-au-feu in Paris
This small family restaurant has been warming the hearts (and stomachs) of Parisians for over 50 years. Here, as in the old days , you are served at wooden tables with checkered tablecloths, and the menu is written on a slate. The menu is very gourmet, offering typical French dishes that our grandmothers used to make: hachis-parmentier, grilled rib steak, homemade terrine, tender marrow bones…

But the restaurant’s signature dish is the pot-au-feu royal. The recipe hasn’t changed in all this time and is still a favorite with regulars and newcomers alike. The meat is melt-in-the-mouth, delicately flavored by the broth (which is served separately in a bowl). The vegetables are extra tender and the marrow bone melts perfectly in the mouth. In short, it’s flawless! And with good reason, as this pot-au-feu is cooked slowly for two and a half hours and prepared with love every day by the chef, using only the finest ingredients. And you can taste it!
If you have a little room left for dessert, don’t miss out on the tarte Tatin, which is homemade, of course, and served warm. Your taste buds will thank you! In short, Au Roi du Pot-au-Feu is a place that exudes the charm of old Paris, far from the sometimes overrated Instagram-worthy spots, and one that we highly recommend.
