Every Sunday, long queues line the sidewalk of this Parisian bakery. And if gourmets are jostling at the door, it’s because they’re hoping to taste the best flan in Ile-de-France. But is this flan bar really worth the effort? Let’s find out!
The flan bar everyone’s talking about in Paris…
The flan pâtissier is one of France’s favorite desserts. In Paris, the craze for this little sweet is so strong that a festival is devoted to it. Every year in October, the boutique Fou de Pâtisserie organizes the Festival du Flan for sweet tooths. A gourmet event not to be missed, it aims to serve up the crème de la crème of Chefs’ flans on a silver platter. From traditional egg flan to marbled flan and praline flan, there’s something here for every taste! But what about treating yourself to a slice, by pushing open the doors of a veritable temple of flan?
Flan in all its forms!
In the heart of the Paris & Co bakery, flans of every color and flavor in abundance literally parade before your eyes. Every Sunday, this 15th arrondissement bakery transforms itself into a flan bar. On the stalls, you’ll find generous slices of flans in a wide variety of flavors. But this isn’t the umpteenth food concept with a simple visual sales pitch. While the flans are undeniably appetizing, they’re also extremely tasty. And with good reason: the Paris & Co bakery won the prestigious title of best flan in Ile-de-France 2021.
Le meilleur flan d’Ile-de-France… what a flan!
What’s on the menu? An infinite palette of flavors. In addition to the inevitable vanilla custard flan (without eggs), you’ll find other unusual flavors. Gourmets can opt for a praline pecan flan, another with black sesame, Matcha, chocolate, coconut, hazelnut, strawberry or crème brûlée. And when it comes to portions, Paris & Co hasn’t done things by halves. While Parisians are sometimes accustomed to small quantities sold at exorbitant prices, here the flan portions are ultra copious. On the palate, the contrast of textures is incredible: a cream that couldn’t be smoother and an ultra-crisp pastry. So, which flan will you choose? The hardest part will undoubtedly be choosing.
