The end of 2025 will mark the disappearance of cardboard transport tickets. Goodbye, then, to those good old metro tickets, the ones we never knew where to put away and which were demagnetized by our keys or our change… The end of an era which will be phased in gradually over the course of the year.
1 – The cardboard book of 10 tickets… no more!
Yes, books of 10 are no longer available for sale. The aim is to promote Pass Liberté+ and Navigo Easy.
Initially, the Pass Liberté +, which enables users to pay for the month’s journeys on a pay-as-you-go basis, was only available on buses and metros in Paris and its inner suburbs. But since the beginning of 2025, its offer has been extended throughout the IDF region, offering an advantageous fare (20% less expensive than a classic transport ticket).
Similarly, the Navigo Easy Pass, which lets you store your tickets virtually, is highly recommended for occasional users.
2 – You can still temporarily buy metro tickets
2025 is a transitional year for metro tickets, which will gradually disappear until the end of the year. In some stations, dematerialized terminals have already completely replaced the magnetic terminals where you had to punch your tickets.
But this isn’t the case everywhere… You can still use them in this case. The IDFM website says: tickets “will remain available at certain machines that do not allow you to obtain rechargeable Navigo Easy passes”, until new machines are installed.
Since January 2, 2025, t+ tickets and Origin-Destination tickets have been available at a single price of 2.50 euros. They enable you to use the entire RATP network in Paris and the IDF, regardless of the number of zones crossed. They can also be loaded into your Pass Navigo Easy, purchased on the Bonjour RATP IDF Mobilité mobile application and dematerialized on your iPhone or Android.
Good to know: tickets will still be sold on board buses. However, the fare will be higher if you buy directly from the driver. A ticket paid for on the bus costs 2.50 euros, compared with 2 euros if purchased in advance.
The objectives here are clear: to encourage users to switch to paperless tickets, and to the liberté+ and Navigo easy offers.
Did you already have metro tickets before the reform? No problem, they’re valid until the end of 2025.
3 – Once the deadline has passed, you won’t be able to exchange your old tickets or get a refund.
If you already have a stock of metro tickets, you should know that you won’t be able to exchange them or get a refund once they’re no longer usable. In fact, you’ll need to use them as a priority before switching to the new dematerialized tickets by the end of 2025 or early 2026. The same applies to metro tickets stored in your Navigo Easy Pass! So you’ve still got a few months ahead of you.
