With summer already seeming like a distant memory, we’re happily turning to the comfort that winter brings. And when it comes to culinary comfort, ramen is the go-to! After Hakata Choten, Takesan Donabe, and TonTon, this time we’ve set our sights on Gaijin, which is already serving up its Japanese soups at two Parisian locations. Head to Pigalle or Bastille to try the ramen everyone’s talking about right now.
Authentic ramen recipes in the heart of Paris
Behind these two beautifully decorated restaurants lies a venture led by a former lawyer who, inspired by his travels to Japan and experiments during the Covid pandemic, launched his restaurant business in 2024. Two years later, Gaijin can be enjoyed at two Parisian locations. The philosophy? A deep commitment to Japanese techniques, premium ingredients, and, of course, everything made in-house.
While ramen is clearly the star of the menu here, we’re happy to treat ourselves to a sando, a donburi, or an appetizer—including the famous ajitama eggs, karaage, or delicious gyozas. But let’s get back to our comforting soups. Here, the ramen comes in several varieties: the Tori with free-range chicken broth, the vegan Kinoko, the Rikukai with its bold land-and-sea broth, and the Gaijin with duck broth, which, incidentally, reminds us of Kodawari Ueno. Another, more summery option is the iced ramen, served cold and without broth.

Another unique feature rarely seen in Paris: Gaijin offers a ramen kit to take home or have delivered. It’s your chance to enjoy the restaurant’s specialties at home in just 5 minutes flat. The menu also features a selection of desserts, including mochi, matcha tiramisu, and yuzu cheesecake. You’ll also find a small selection of sake, cocktails, and Japanese spirits.
All in all, all the ingredients are there for a meal that’s as authentic as it is delicious! All that’s left to do is give it a try!
