Do you love medieval towns and places steeped in history? Then don’t miss the Mantes-la-Jolie Medieval Festival this coming October. It’s a free event where you’ll literally be transported back to the age of knights. What’s on the program? Medieval concerts, a craft market, and creative workshops… A one-of-a-kind free festival to experience this October!
A free medieval festival just 1 hour from Paris
Throughout the day, the streets of downtown Mantes-la-Jolie will host artisans, knights, musicians, jugglers, and storytellers, spread out across several historic encampments and around a reconstructed medieval farm.
You’ll be able to enjoy spectacular performances, such as demonstrations of medieval combat, juggling, and acrobatics… You’ll hear musicians perform live and discover street theater… The more adventurous can even try climbing to the top of a medieval tower, whilethe more creative will no doubt take part in hands-on workshops: candle-making, weaving, and fabric dyeing will let young and old alike get their hands dirty.

And for anyone who’s always wanted to become a knight, there will also be an introductory course for the youngest visitors. And of course, no medieval festival is complete without a market! You can stroll among the stalls of bakers, tanners, glassblowers, weavers, and many other traditional craftsmen, who will be happy to tell you all about their trades. And of course, you’ll be able to take home one of their creations sold on-site.
576 Years of the Foire aux Oignons
The festival is also part of the 576th edition of the Foire aux Oignons, which is undoubtedly one of the oldest fairs in France. Local heritage will also be highlighted with tours of the Notre-Dame Collegiate Church, the Hôtel-Dieu Museum, the medieval archives, and walking tours dedicated to the city’s royal history. Let’s just say right away—you’re in for a real treat! A magical day to experience only on Saturday, October 17.
