A little happiness in this world of bullies. On September 12, the magnificent Parc Zoologique de Vincennes welcomed a new tenant: an adorable giraffe. Good news for her species, the Kordofan, native to the northern part of Africa. These giraffes are extremely rare and fragile: today, there are between 1,000 and 1,500 individuals in the wild worldwide. A magnificent and sensitive species, which unfortunately is considered critically endangered. The little female is now two months old and doing just fine!
A baby giraffe in Paris: a first in six years
Although we don’t yet know her name , we do know that this little female was not very big when she was born! Considered to be of small stature, the adorable giraffe weighed 44 kg and was “only” 1.65 m tall on the day she was born. These figures have since changed considerably. Now two months old, the pretty Kordofan giraffe lives peacefully alongside her parents and family in the Parc Zoologique de Vincennes. A Parisian with beautiful black eyes, she’s already turning heads! It’s been six years since the park has celebrated such an event, since Odja’s birth in 2019!

His species has been on the IUCN global red list for many years. A species threatened by poaching, but also by the many conflicts affecting Africa, making its natural habitat hostile… Today, there are barely 1,500 individuals in the wild. That’s why these giraffes receive so much attention, and have joined the European breeding program (EEP), of which the Vincennes Zoo is one of the most active in Paris.
Lively and mischievous, the pretty giraffe is doing just fine! Her first name, yet to be chosen by the groomers, should begin with the letter O (the second letter of her mother’s name, Goumie). The birth was closely monitored… for 15 months! A lovely baby giraffe for you to see on your next outing!
