Paris is a veritable open-air museum. Street art takes pride of place, and graffiti covers the walls of certain neighborhoods, each telling its own story. And right now, a major event dedicated to street art is likely to bring together urban art lovers AND lovers of free goodies. It’s the Expo des 150, a FREE street art exhibition spanning almost 3000 m2. Let’s take a look at this colorful artistic event, open to the public free of charge.
New free street art exhibition alert!
Whether on or off the walls of Parisian streets, street art attracts crowds in the City of Light. And how would you like to see urban art and the spirit of cabaret intersect in the capital? Right now, and until the end of March, the huge free exhibition of the 150 revives the Cabaret du Chat Noir. A legendary cabaret, it was founded in 1881, under the influence of Rodolphe Salis. 140 years later, the soul of this legendary Parisian cabaret, which once literally revolutionized the Parisian art scene, lives again, in the heart of an unusual venue. The setting for this monumental exhibition? An old telephone exchange! And it’s here, on almost 3,000 m2, that 350 urban artists have set down their brushes and spray cans.
350 street artists meet in Paris
On the walls and from floor to ceiling, tags, stencils, sculptures, collages and other installations by artists from the urban scene rub shoulders. Yes, on rue du Faubourg Poissonnière in the 9th arrondissement, you’ll have to open your eyes wide. In this vast, atypical venue, you won’t find any showgirls or chansonniers, but street art. Le Chat Noir’s vocation for this major artistic event? To give carte blanche to urban artists, often overlooked by museums and galleries. In the heart of Montmartre, art enthusiasts and the curious can discover the committed art of muralist Dawal, the mind games of urban poet Ma Rue par Achbé, the loving words of heartfelt stencil artist Heartcraft, and the poetic graffiti of artist Les Murs ont desOreilles, to name but a few. Their work is accompanied by that of over 300 of their fellow artists, each with his or her own artistic universe. An eclectic program, then, and a carte blanche for these artists who express themselves with aerosol cans.
