Borrowed by millions of passengers every day, Paris stations are always in the news. Whether we use them on a daily basis or on vacation, we’ll always have something to say about our adventures on the rails… or our misadventures. In this respect, a major user satisfaction barometer has been set up, and we can now discover which are the best and worst stations in the country.
Which is the worst station in France?
Incessant work, insecurity and delays: users of France’s rail network often make the same observation about the quality of their journey. But where are we worst off? Hallelujah, according to the SNCF’s satisfaction barometer, it’s not a Paris station that takes the sad honour of being the worst station in France, but the Gare Matabiau in Toulouse.
In second place in this dismal ranking is a Parisian station. Although we’d have bet on the Gare du Nord, it’s the Gare d’Austerlitz that’s particularly hated by its users. The main reason for this is the fact that the building has been under renovation for almost 10 years, making its use generally less convenient and suitable. Other dislikes include general comfort, architecture and the lack of shops.
Beyond the figures and rankings, it is above all user testimonials that paint the most damning portrait of these stations. On social networks and passenger forums alike, stories abound: toilets often closed or in a deplorable state, escalators permanently out of order, signage deemed incomprehensible, and even a feeling of insecurity.
