A flagship measure of Anne Hidalgo‘s mandates, the greening and pedestrianization of streets is back on the agenda. On March 23, the future of 500 additional Parisian thoroughfares will be decided in the third citizens’ vote since the Socialist mayor began her second term. On this occasion, Parisians will be invited to go to the polls if they so wish.
Greening: the future face of 500 streets in the hands of Parisians this spring
After the consultation on the fate of self-service electric scooters and the one on SUV parking, the voice of Parisians will once again be heard. This time too, it’s the face of the capital that Parisians will be reflecting on, as the future of 500 streets is at stake. The question is simple: “For or against: greening and making pedestrian-friendly 500 streets in Paris, spread across all the districts?”
The ballot boxes will therefore be open on March 23, and all Parisians aged 16 and over will be invited to the polling booth to determine the fate of these streets. Currently being identified, these 500 routes will be divided into 2 to 5 neighborhoods, 25% of which will be in working-class areas. According to Patrick Bloche, first deputy mayor of Paris, this ambitious project will be completed in three to four years. In line with Anne Hidalgo’s ambition to give less space to cars and more to pedestrians, the project would potentially eliminate 10,000 parking spaces over time.
See you on March 23 at the 223 polling stations, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the occasion.
