He spent 33 years of his life assembling, piece by piece, these mosaic fragments on and around his house. La Maison Picassiette is the slightly crazy dream of a single man, Raymond Isidore. An astonishing home, located in Chartres, just one hour from Paris, entirely covered in mosaics—from floor to ceiling, including its garden. A true masterpiece of craftsmanship, unique in the world!
A unique and magical mosaic house just 1 hour from Paris
You don’t have to be a world-famous artist to create a memorable work of art. Raymond Isidore understood this well. Thisunconventional and passionate self-taught artist had the crazy (and wonderful) idea ofdecorating his house with a multitude of colors starting in World War II.

Floors, ceilings, walls, furniture, garden… nothing has escaped his creative madness. With patience, this former cemetery sweeper has adorned his humble home with over 15 tons of mosaic tiles. As you tour the house, you’ll notice the finesse of his work and can admire notable Christian scenes, such as a view of Jerusalem or various cathedrals in the region….

Listed as a historic monument, it even attracted a certain Pablo Picasso, who visited it in 1954. The house is open to visitors year-round and will amaze you as much as it will move you with its history.
