One of the few lines that Parisians appreciate, the 14 stands out worldwide thanks to some pretty crazy figures. With a train every 85 seconds during rush hour, it’s hard to compete with the purple line of the Paris metro. A performance that RATP is proud of, and one that can be further improved.
Is line 14 the most reliable and punctual line in the world?
Too unreliable, not very punctual and often plagued by incidents, the Paris metro doesn’t get much good press from its users. A few months ago, Le Parisien published its reliability barometer for Paris metro lines, and the findings were somewhat alarming on some sections, such as 13, 12 and 8. On the other hand, there are a few good performers among all metro lines, especially the more modern 14, which is one of the most punctual and fastest lines in the world.
In fact, during morning rush hour, the interval between trains is now just 85 seconds. That’s ten seconds faster than in April, and 20 seconds faster than a year ago. “According to Jean Castex, this is a worldwide feat that has nothing to envy the metros of other international megacities. What’s more, the trains now carry almost 800,000 passengers a day, compared with 650,000 before the extension. A significant increase, and a figure that should reach the million mark within two years.
