The terrace of the Meudon Observatory, even better than a rooftop
If you’re tired of the capital’s overcrowded rooftops, we’ve found you a little slice of paradise just a few minutes from Paris. Head to Meudon, in the 92nd arrondissement, to discover this gem : the terrace of the Meudon Observatory. There you’ll find a vast 6-hectare estate where you can stroll for free all year round.

You’ll discover beautiful avenues lined with plane trees, ponds, and a whole network of fountains reminiscent of those at the Palace of Versailles! And for good reason, since it was King Louis XIV’s official gardener, Le Nôtre, who was commissioned by the Marquis de Louvois—owner of the estate and the king’s minister—to design these gardens. A quintessential French garden, then, that is sure to charm you throughout your stroll, with its striking perspectives, wide avenues, and various viewpoints overlooking the city.
Listed as a historic monument in 1913, you’ll see its incredible orangery or even its astrophysics observatory, built from the remains of the Château Neuf, which was destroyed years earlier… A timeless site, free to explore at your leisure all year round!
