The weather in Paris this week will be chaotic, to say the least. Vigilance orange, wind gusts of up to 70 km/h, temperatures down to -4°C and snowfall: all the ingredients for a wintry episode are present. Up to 5 centimetres of snow are forecast. No white Christmas this year, but a white back-to-school in the capital!
A white start to the new school year in the capital. When will it snow in Paris?
To the delight of Parisians, it may be possible to go tobogganing (or skiing) on the Butte Montmartre in the next few days. Because this time, it won’t be a few scattered flakes like in recent weeks: the snow will actually be there. Since 6 a.m. this Monday, January 5, Paris and the Paris region have been under a “vigilance orange” for snow and freezing rain, as announced by Météo-France. With minimum temperatures reaching -4°C on this back-to-school day, the first flakes are expected this afternoon, and the episode could last for a long time. Météo-France is forecasting a layer of 1 to 3 centimetres over much of the region, with up to 5 centimetres in the inner suburbs. Heavy frosts are also expected on the night of Monday January 5 to Tuesday January 6, 2026. But will the snow really stay on the ground?
Paris and Ile-de-France under orange alert: snow, freezing rain and windy conditions
In reality, the biggest snow event is likely to occur on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. According to meteorologists, flakes will fall throughout the day, with around 5 centimetres of snow expected. And that’s not all: strong wind gusts are also forecast, reaching 45 km/h on Wednesday. They will reach up to 70 km/h on Thursday January 8 and Friday January 9, 2026. With this icy, snowy and windy weather, Moon boots and balaclavas are de rigueur this week!
