An emblematic figure of international street art, Shepard Fairey (aka Obey) is to create an original, “masterly” work for Paris. The artist will unveil it in a few days’ time at a prestigious site in the capital.
Shepard Fairey, an American street artist in Paris
Shepard Fairey, one of the great names of the street art movement, will be bringing a new creation to Paname. This is yet another work by the man who has repeatedly left his mark on Parisian walls and facades, and exhibited in the city’s galleries.
It’s in the south of the city that his most important productions are concentrated, to be seen in the open air! In 2012 and 2016, the American created several gigantic works in the 13th arrondissement, the epicenter of Parisian urban art. And to this day, “Delicate Balance”, “Liberté, égalité, fraternité”, “Rise above rebel” and the creation adorning the façade of Galerie Itinerrance can still be seen.
Shepard Fairey (Obey) takes up residence in a prestigious Parisian venue
For his next artistic gesture, Shepard Fairey will have the opportunity to create in a brand new setting! The artist takes up residence in the center of Paris, in a site not to be missed! The Hôtel de Ville, the beating heart of Parisian life, will serve as the artist’s unprecedented blank canvas.
On the occasion of the exhibition De Paris à Belém : 10 ans d’actions mondiales pour le climat (From Paris to Belém: 10 years of global climate action ), celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement (COP21), the City of Paris has asked the street artist to design a special artistic project. Fairey will produce a work announced as “masterly” by the Mairie de Paris, and it will be visible from the forecourt. An over-the-top creation? A commitment to the climate? Installed on the façade of the building itself?
