The Hôtel de la Païva: one of the most secret places in Paris
A famous courtesan of the Second Empire, the Marquise de Païva turned heads wherever she went. Although she held no title of nobility, she knew how to use her charms and her impressive social circle to live the high life. Among her romantic encounters, one left an indelible mark on her life: Count Guido de Donnersmarck. Madly in love with her, he had this magnificent mansion built for her at 25 Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Inspired by the most beautiful palaces of the Italian Renaissance, this perfectly preserved architectural gem was one of the most expensive mansions of its time.
