When we think of religious buildings in Paris,Notre Dame certainly comes to mind first, followed closely by Sacré-Cœur. And that’s a shame , because there are other places that are just as sublime and deserve to be better known. One such place is the magnificent Chapel of the Holy Spirit, tucked away in the 5th arrondissement. Listed as a historic monument, this place is absolutely stunning.
A secret chapel nestled in the heart of Paris’s 5th arrondissement

Built between 1778 and 1782, this chapel, little known to the general public, is a real gem. Upon entering, you will be immediately struck by its magnificence and rich painted and gilded decorations, which contrast with the simplicity of its façade. Built by the architect Le Camus de Mézières, then by Chalgrin, the chapel is the first mother house of the Spiritans.

Lucky visitors will be able to explore the seminary, which houses a sublime central staircase leading to several floors. You can also admire the seminary’s refectory, with its wooden beams and stone walls. It’s an extraordinary place that seems straight out of Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry. But the highlight of the show is, of course, the chapel itself. Between its colorful stained-glass windows that perfectly reflect the sun and the nave that is absolutely stunning in its beauty, you will be left breathless. A completely confidential building, still inhabited today by the congregation. However, you can still visit the premises by calling this number: 01 47 07 49 09.
