While Christmas markets are gradually beginning to blossom in the four corners of the capital, only one is missing, and has been for several years. Since 2017, we haven’t had the chance to visit the Champs-Élysées Christmas market. Having received bad press over the years, it was not renewed, much to the dismay of local residents and Catherine Lécuyer, 8th arrondissement councillor and member of the Changer Paris group, acting in favor of its future reinstatement.
The Champs de Gaulle Christmas market back soon?
A brand-new Christmas market at La Villette, a Japanese village at Cité Fertile and an ice rink at Les Tuileries: in Paris, the magic of the festive season is gradually taking hold, but its most beautiful avenue is orphaned of its Christmas village. For seven years now, only the illuminations have been on display for the festive season, the market having been discontinued due to the “insufficient quality” of its entertainment and products.
An unfortunate measure, according to Catherine Lécuyer, a sentiment shared by many Parisians. That’s why the councillor presented the project to rehabilitate the Champs-Élysées Christmas market. As an“exceptional showcase to promote the quality of the products and know-how of Parisian and Ile-de-France artisans”, the return of this event“would contribute to the attractiveness and influence of Paris“.
She thus concurs with the Comité Champs-Élysées ‘ desire to recreate a quality Christmas market in its own right. If the project goes ahead, we should soon see the reappearance of this pretty gathering, with its chalets and all the specialities that used to be on offer. However, a “monitoring system” will be put in place to ensure that the “Christmas Market Charter” is respected!
So we can look forward to the return of the legendary Christmas market, with its emphasis on quality!
