Do you know Fontaine Gaillon? This magnificent mansion, well known to epicureans, has been one of the icons of the Right Bank for over 100 years. Before becoming the gourmet address we know today, it was in turn a hotel, the residence of a princess, then that of the Duke of Richelieu. Today, this trendy “bouillon” offers traditional French cuisine, sublimated by exceptional products. If, since the 18ᵉ century, the whole of Paris has flocked here day and night, it’s in fine weather that the restaurant experiences its finest moments. The latter hides one of the most beautiful ephemeral terraces in Paris… Shall we show you around?
La fontaine Gaillon: and its beautiful historic terrace in the heart of Paris
This lovely address, nestled a stone’s throw from the Théâtre de la Michodière in the 2nd arrondissement, has always been a meeting place for gourmets. We go there to sample its delicious French cuisine, have a drink with friends and, above all, enjoy its ephemeral terrace in fine weather.
The fountain of the same name, built in 1707, is one of the capital’s most remarkable. This Renaissance-style double basin gives the place and this terrace an undeniable cachet. Out of sight, hidden behind the plants, the lapping of the water will almost give you the illusion of being in Italy. It’s hardly surprising, then, that the restaurant has always been the secret hideaway of artists and world leaders. Emile Zola even immortalized it in his work “Au bonheur des Dames” ….
A festive restaurant with modernized traditional cuisine
On the menu, the restaurant stays true to its origins, offering gourmet, comforting dishes that are typically French. With her freshness and talent, chef Marie-Victorine Manoa brings a touch of modernity to dishes that are sometimes neglected. Extra-melting
veal liver, vol-au-vent and langoustines with lemon, vegetable tian and Burgundy snails… Special mention for the generous sole meunière, as tender as it is tasty!
For those who like to continue the evening in more intimate surroundings, head upstairs! Its very Art Deco cocktail bar houses lounges that you can privatize for dinner. Cosy places, ideal for lively discussions and confidences…
