While 2025 has offered us a fine selection of exhibitions and events, 2026 will also be a time of culture, as evidenced by the Musée d’Orsay‘s upcoming program. Headlining in March, Renoir et l’amour will take us on an emotional and intellectual journey through the painter’s work, through a highly poetic prism.
A major Renoir exhibition coming soon to the Musée d’Orsay
Having already honored Caillebotte, followed by Art in the Street and Christian Krohg, the Musée d’Orsay is already outlining its program for 2026. This spring, the spotlight will be on Pierre-Auguste Renoir, with an enchanting retrospective in collaboration with the National Gallery in London and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Through a careful selection of paintings, the work of this major figure of Impressionism will be explored through his fascination with human relationships, sensuality and the body. Among the works presented will be emblematic paintings, mainly from the collections of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie, as well as prestigious international loans. These works will be accompanied by drawings, archival documents and critical reflections to enrich the reading of the exhibition. Some of these works are well known to the general public, such as Bal du moulin de la Galette and Jeunes filles au piano, but here they will be placed in a new perspective.
The exhibition does not simply bring together Renoir’s great masterpieces, but aims to revisit his place in art history by exploring what love represents in his painting. Far from a simple romantic look, the aim here is to understand how this theme runs through the whole of his work, reflecting his relationship to the world, to modernity and to the female figure.
All we have to do now is wait patiently until next spring to discover this major retrospective. In the meantime, you can take a stroll through the museums and enjoy one of the many exhibitions on our cultural calendar.
