For just two evenings—July 4 and August 1— Provins will reveal itself in an atmosphere found nowhere else in the Île-de-France region. The city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will indeed take on a completely different look after dark with the return of its famous “Lueurs du Temps.”
Thousands of candles and free entertainment
Thousands of candles will be placed in the streets, on the squares, and around the main monuments of the Upper Town. The César Tower will become one of the evening’s must-see stops. The famous 12th-century keep will be illuminated by more than 700 candles, while musicians will accompany visitors with live music.
Throughout the evening, various events will take place throughout the medieval city. Fire jugglers will perform one after another at Place Saint-Quiriace, free concerts will enliven Place du Châtel, shops will stay open late into the evening, and restaurants will set up tables by candlelight.
Visitors who want to explore further can also book one of the tours offered specifically for the event. Torchlight walks, dramatized tours along the ramparts, storytelling in the underground passages, and a nighttime equestrian show will offer a unique way to discover the city, well after the monuments have closed for the day.
Just over an hour from Paris, it’s hard to find a summer getaway offering such a unique setting. For two nights, Provins will almost recapture the atmosphere it once enjoyed centuries ago!
