With the long weekend ahead, don’t you think we’d like to get away from it all for a while? Then let’s head for Veules-les-Roses in Seine-Maritime. This little-known seaside resort just 2 hours from Paris is well worth the trip. With its picturesque flower-filled village, windmills and pebble beach, it has all the makings of a romantic destination. It’s not for nothing that the greatest artists, like Victor Hugo, took refuge here for a few days…
Veules-les-Roses: the most romantic seaside resort just a stone’s throw from Paris

Along the Côte d’Albâtre lies a little-known gem: Veules-les-Roses. A seaside resort full of charm. Popular in the XIXᵉ century for its flower-filled village and time-sculpted limestone cliffs, many artists and celebrities came here to recharge their batteries and find inspiration. Such was the case of Victor Hugo, who loved to visit his friend Paul Meurice, and stroll along the village’s magnificent beach to meditate. The sea here is almost turquoise! A sublime sight to behold in any season…

Now is the perfect time to visit the village! The village is surrounded by flowers, which add color to the river banks and give the place the air of impressionist paintings. In fact, the Veules is France’s smallest river. At 1,149 m long, this natural curiosity has become one of the symbols of this charming village. Lose yourself along it, and take time to admire the mills and half-timbered thatched cottages that border the river.
Undeniably one of the most beautiful villages in France, Veules-les-Roses is also one of the smallest. Only 600 souls live here year-round. With its colorful streets, multicolored rosebushes and magnificent beach, the village has it all. An idyllic getaway to indulge in this weekend (and the rest of the year).
