Every summer, open-air movie theaters spring up all over Paris. But the one at the Air and Space Museum is clearly in a league of its own. Here, there’s no screen set up on a lawn or between two trees: movies are projected directly onto the fuselage of a Boeing 747, right in the middle of the tarmac at Le Bourget.
The most unusual of all open-air cinemas is back
Good news: Ciné Tarmac will indeed return in 2026, with a new edition scheduled for July 3–5. The event has now become an early-summer staple for the museum, which is bringing it back for a new series of screenings under the stars.
The concept remains the same: visitors arrive in the early evening and first enjoy the museum before the screening. Admission includes free access to the halls, the permanent collections, and the temporary exhibition “Funny Flights – Caricaturing Aerial Experiences, “ presented during the summer season.
Then, as night falls, head to the tarmac. Deck chairs are set up facing the museum’s legendary Boeing 747, and the film begins projected directly onto the aircraft’s fuselage. A truly unique setting, enhanced by the historic planes and rockets visible around the site.

For the 2026 edition, the museum has already announced *Aviator* as one of the films on the schedule. Martin Scorsese’s feature film about Howard Hughes is a perfect fit for the venue: an aviation pioneer, industrialist, and major figure in American aviation history. *To The Moon* and *First Man* will also be part of the lineup.
Over the course of the three evenings, several activities will also accompany the screenings. Complimentary popcorn before the show, an exploration of collections highlighting the connection between aviation and cinema, and extended evening hours at the museum will be part of the program.
The other highlight of Ciné Tarmac is, of course, the setting. The Air and Space Museum, located in Le Bourget, remains one of the largest aviation museums in the world and is already home to the Concorde, Ariane, and the A380. For one weekend, it also becomes one of the most unique movie theaters in the Paris region.
Ticket sales will open on June 3, and, as in previous years, no tickets will be sold on-site. With legendary planes, lounge chairs, and screenings under the stars, it checks all the boxes for a summer outing that offers a refreshing change from the usual formats.
