Fornearly 400 years, this bar has brought Rue Montpensier to life with its lively (and sometimes boozy) evenings. Formerly known as La Pissote, it was where coachmen would gather to have a drink and relieve themselves before picking up their clients at the Théâtre du Palais Royal… hence the old name “pissotte,” which comes from the verb “pisser” (to urinate).
Located since 1614 just a stone’s throw from the prestigious theater, it has always been a favorite spot for actors after their performances. Steeped in its own history and featuring somewhat old-fashioned decor, the bar has nonetheless lost none of its charm. People go there to share a cheese or charcuterie platter and enjoy itscharming terracein any season.
