On Sunday, May 10, Seine-et-Marne will host the first edition of its medieval marathon, a unique race connecting the Château de Blandy-les-Tours to the historic city of Provins. The famous 42.195-kilometer race will offer runners a course that is both athletic and cultural, designed to highlight the region’s medieval heritage.
An unusual marathon through landscapes and castles
The race will start in Blandy-les-Tours, in front of its famous fortified castle, a designated historic monument. Participants will then pass through several villages and rural landscapes before crossing the finish line at the foot of the ramparts of Provins, a city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This west-to-east crossing of the department will offer a varied setting featuring country paths, small roads, and historic sites.

In total, the route will pass through several towns and by various heritage sites, such as the collegiate church of Champeaux and the Gallo-Roman theater of Châteaubleau. The goal is clearly to combine athletic challenge with cultural discovery, in an atmosphere inspired by the Middle Ages.
In addition to the marathon, several formats will be offered to allow as many people as possible to participate: a half-marathon, a team relay marathon, as well as shorter races and small workshops for children. Festive activities and local farmers’ markets are also planned in Blandy and Provins to create a true medieval atmosphere throughout the weekend.

The marathon will start at 9:45 a.m. in Blandy-les-Tours, while other events will take place over the two days, including races for all skill levels. The organizers aim to make this a yearly event combining sports, tourism, and heritage, accessible to both experienced runners and amateurs alike.
With its route connecting two iconic medieval sites, this marathon promises to be one of the most unique sporting events near Paris. Between ramparts, historic villages, and rural landscapes, Seine-et-Marne will offer an experience that combines sports and historical immersion.
