Every winter, Paris gets into the spirit of the Lunar New Year. Colorful parades, shows, and entertainment take place in several neighborhoods, as well as at certain iconic cultural venues. In 2026, the Cernuschi Museum, dedicated to Asian arts, is also preparing a special program to celebrate the arrival of the new year, which will be marked by the Fire Horse.
A weekend of celebrations at the Cernuschi Museum
Located a stone’s throw from Parc Monceau, this museum, housed in an elegant mansion, is one of the main Parisian venues dedicated to Asian civilizations. Every year, it takes part in the Lunar New Year festivities by organizing an accessible, family-friendly event that combines cultural discovery and popular traditions.
For the 2026 edition, the museum is offering a weekend of free events on February 21 and 22. The program will begin with a musical tale entitled Huo Ma, presented on Saturday at the end of the morning. This performance will bring together several artists combining narration, music, and theatrical interpretation. Cello, pipa, and percussion accompany the story and immerse the audience in a world inspired by Asian legends and symbols related to the New Year.
In the afternoon, a creative workshop will invite young and old alike to make their own greeting cards on the theme of the horse. Led by a museum lecturer, this workshop will explore the visual and symbolic codes associated with Lunar New Year traditions, while allowing participants to leave with a personalized creation.
The highlight of the weekend, the dragon dance, will take place in front of the museum entrance. This traditional performance, orchestrated by a specialized association, is one of the most spectacular rituals of the Lunar New Year. All activities are free of charge and do not require reservations, subject to availability.
Beyond this festive weekend, visitors can also discover the museum’s permanent collection. A veritable institution of Asian arts like the Guimet Museum, it brings together an important selection of works from China, Japan, Vietnam, and Korea.
Every year, this weekend attracts both Asian culture enthusiasts and those who are curious to discover the rituals and symbols of this celebration. For 2026, the program is already shaping up to be a convivial and immersive experience, perfect for diving into the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year in the heart of Paris.
