For the first time ever, the Louvre is appealing for donations! The world’s largest museum needs your help to restore the Sphinx Courtyard (also known as the Queen’s Courtyard). A remarkable historic courtyard spanning 500 m², commissioned by Louis XIV.
An unprecedented appeal for donations from the Louvre Museum
Located in the museum’s most visited wing, the Denon Wing, the courtyard’s renovation promises to be a monumental undertaking. First, craftsmen will have to tackle its immense, century-old glass roof, which stands 20 meters high. This roof, damaged by the passage of time, no longer provides any insulation.
Water and heat pass through it very easily, making it a veritable hell no matter the season… A ventilation system will therefore be fully integrated into the glass roof.
With this fundraising appeal, the museum hopes to raise 800,000 euros to cover a significant portion of the courtyard’s restoration. The campaign also aims to attract additional sponsors! You have until January 19, 2027, to contribute.
