660 million euros! That’s the price tag for the Louvre’s transformation! With 9 million visitors each year, it was time for the museum to get a facelift. Nothing is too good for the world’s largest museum, whose reputation and cultural influence must be preserved now more than ever, following the heist of the century that occurred a few months ago…… New layout, new entrances, new exteriors… You simply won’t recognize it anymore!
Renovations at the Louvre: a museum soon to be transformed
This is a major turning point for the world’s largest museum. It is poised to undergo a new renaissance, with completely redesigned spaces. The winners of the international Louvre competition are planning majorchanges, including two new entrances, one on the Seine side and one on Rue de Rivoli. The goal? To relieve congestion at the pyramid while reconnecting the museum to the city by offering new access points.

Special attention will also be given to the famous Mona Lisa, which will have a space entirely dedicated to it ( yes, nothing less). This space will be directly connected to the new reception areas on the Colonnade side. It will allow for a more fluid and serene contemplation of this much-loved masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci.

Finally, the project isn’t just about moving walls, since the Louvre’s exterior will also be redesigned. Too stark and concrete, the museum really needs to incorporate more greenery to adapt to climate change! The museum’s moats will thus be transformed into true oases of coolness, featuring gardens and relaxation areas, bookstores, and restaurants beneath its ramps.
However, we’ll have to be patient, as we won’t be able to see the final result until 2031!
