The site’s history dates back to the time when the land belonged to large aristocratic estates. The current park occupies the site of the former Château de Bécon, which was acquired by various families in the 19th century before being destroyed following the conflicts of the 20th century. The estate was subsequently transformed into a public space while retaining several traces of its past.
Today, a stroll through the park allows visitors to discover several rare heritage sites. The park is home to the Pavilion of India and the Pavilion of Sweden-Norway, two structures dating from the 1878 World’s Fair, as well as an open-air theater and an orangery.
Organized on two levels, the park features large lawns and tree-lined paths in its upper section, while the lower section slopes gently down toward the Seine. This topography offers interesting vistas and allows visitors to alternate between open spaces and shadier areas.
The site also features playgrounds, ping-pong tables, a basketball court, and even a carousel, making it a popular spot for local residents whenever the weather permits. Relaxation areas and lawns are also perfect for picnics or breaks in the sun.
Bécon Park is also appreciated for its relatively peaceful atmosphere, despite its immediate proximity to La Défense. The vegetation, the shaded paths, and the bonus view of the Seine give the impression of quickly escaping the surrounding urban landscape.
