Running along the banks of the Seine in the Hauts-de-Seine department, the Promenade Bleue is a greenway that connects Colombes to Rueil-Malmaison over a distance of around 9 to 10 kilometers, following a former towpath that has been restored. It is a mixed-use route, designed for pedestrians and cyclists, with the aim of giving the river back to the residents.
A bucolic 10 km trail along the Seine
To enjoy this route, you can start on the Colombes side, near Pierre-Lagravère Park, a vast space facing the Seine, appreciated for its paths suitable for walking, running, and cycling. It only takes a few minutes to understand what makes this route so charming, with its views of the river and very green sections, far from the noise of the main roads.
As you head towards Nanterre, the Promenade Bleue passes through one of its most pleasant sections. The Chemin de l’Île departmental park, designed around the theme of water, is the perfect place for a well-deserved break along the route. Here you will find meadows, water gardens, playgrounds, and above all a feeling of total calm, even though La Défense is not far away. The Rueil-Malmaison section offers a very photogenic finale, particularly around the Chatou bridge and the banks of the Île des Impressionnistes.
Behind the simplicity of the route lies a real regional project. The department explains that the Promenade Bleue is part of a sustainable management plan for the Seine adopted in 2006 and updated in 2022, with the ambition of creating a much longer continuity along the banks of the Seine in the Hauts-de-Seine department.
Finally, good news for casual walkers: the Promenade Bleue can also be explored in several stages. A section of a few kilometers is already perfect for a quick outing. The entire route between Colombes and Rueil-Malmaison is a long walk along the water, without any particular difficulty, offering the rare luxury in Île-de-France of staying by the river without being interrupted by traffic. A walk to be enjoyed very soon this spring.
