After 37 years of disappearance, the bust of Jim Morrison, stolen from the artist’s tombstone in 1988, has just been found! Following an investigation by the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Brigade Financière et Anti-Corruption was able to get its hands on the statue “by chance”, putting an end to a mystery that had remained unsolved for years.
The bust of Jim Morrison finally found
Created to mark the 10th anniversary of Jim Morrison‘s death, the statue in the effigy of the rock legend was stolen one night in May 1988, never to reappear. Today marks a turning point in this affair, particularly for the singer’s fans, of whom there are still many. “It was discovered by chance during a search carried out in connection with a case of fraud,” says the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which did not specify where or under what conditions the sculpture was found.

Created by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin, this bust representing the singer at his peak was affixed to his grave for seven years before being mysteriously stolen. Over the years, the sculpture has suffered extensive damage, losing its nose and mouth, but above all it has been damaged by graffiti sprayed by fans of the artist.
On Saturday May 17, the Direction de la Police Judiciaire de la Préfecture de Police announced on Instagram that the famous bust had been found. This news was accompanied by a photo of the famous statue, which looks even more damaged, moss having even spread over it.
In any case, the saga of almost 40 years came to a close this weekend. It remains to be seen exactly how the bust was recovered.
