Spending Halloween beneath Paris, amid the pipes and tunnels through which the capital’s wastewater flows: this is an outing that offers a change of pace from the usual costume parties. On October 31, the Musée des Égouts is offering three guided night tours, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to explore this underground network under unusual conditions, once night has fallen.
Located near the Alma Bridge in the 7th arrondissement, the museum allows visitors to descend into a section of Paris’s actual sewer system. Here, there are no reenactments: visitors walk through utility tunnels, pass over water, and discover the infrastructure that keeps the city running beneath their feet.
For Halloween, a tour into the very bowels of Paris
Paris has approximately 2,600 kilometers of sewers, a network built and modernized over the centuries. In the 19th century, major projects carried out under Napoleon III—notably by engineer Eugène Belgrand—profoundly transformed this system to improve sanitation in the capital.
The museum tells this story through the underground structures themselves, with their pipes, equipment, and explanations of the sewer workers’ jobs. The place already has a unique atmosphere during the day. For Halloween, the evening tours will add a little extra thrill to this already unusual experience.

It’s worth noting that the sewers are a true part of Paris’s industrial heritage, still integral to the city’s daily operations. Behind the tunnels and equipment, visitors will learn not only how water is collected and transported, but also how this network is maintained.
The tours will last about an hour and will also offer a chance to discover the wildlife that inhabits these underground spaces. The event is open to children ages 5 and up, and reservations must be made on the museum’s website.
