A new service for transporting goods and passengers between the UK and France could very well see the light of day very soon. First proposed in 2022, it was due to go into service three years later, but has been hampered by further delays. This time, we can look forward to service in spring 2026!
A new ferry to link the UK to northern France
Forget the plane or the Eurostar, it may soon be possible to reach the UK by boat! In the pipeline for several years now, Project Brave aims to open a direct link between the Scottish port of Rosyth and the French port of Dunkirk. More concretely, operator DFDS aims to launch three trips a week between the two cities. These three 20-hour crossings could transport a total of over 50,000 people a year.
In the pipeline since 2022, this new link was due to see the light of day in 2025, but funding problems coupled with the need for a new border control facility in Rosyth. However, the situation is expected to improve by 2026, and if the project goes ahead this time, it will be the first sea link between Scotland and Europe since 2010, when the ferry service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge was discontinued.
This is a potential new opportunity to reach Scotland, and in particular the superb city of Edinburgh, from the north of France. The opportunity to visit its superb castle, its old town steeped in history and its museums of all kinds.
