In 2026, the Musée d’Orsay will honor Pierre-Auguste Renoir with two complementary exhibitions exploring different aspects of one of Impressionism’s most important artists. These events are being organized to mark the museum’s 40th anniversary, and are sure to be a must-see for art lovers.
Two major Renoir exhibitions at the Musée d’Orsay
Our cultural agenda for 2026 includes not one, but two events at the Musée d’Orsay. The first exhibition, entitled Renoir et l’amour, will open its doors from March 17 to July 19, 2026. It will bring together emblematic works by the painter that address this central theme in his work between the 1860s and 1880s. Renoir often depicted human relationships and social interactions in a variety of settings – guinguettes, gardens, popular balls or open-air promenades – with particular attention paid to the light and colors that characterize his style.
In parallel, the museum will present a second exhibition, Renoir dessinateur, from March 17 to July 5, 2026. This presentation will focus on the artist’s drawings, watercolors, pastels and sketches, an aspect less well known to the general public. The exhibition aims to show the importance of these works on paper in Renoir’s artistic development, revealing various stages of creation, studies and technical approaches.
The Musée d’Orsay, already host to the world’s largest Impressionist collection, adds a new milestone to an already rich program of cultural events for 2026.
