About thirty kilometers from Paris, Sangoku could one day take Gargantua’s place. The former Mirapolis site, an iconic theme park from the 1980s, is at the center of discussions between France and Saudi Arabia. The proposed project is spectacular: a multi-billion-euro entertainment complex, part of which would be dedicated to the Dragon Ball universe. But at this stage, nothing has been officially signed yet.
A Dragon Ball theme park is being considered for the former Mirapolis site
The news was first reported in late July by Politico and later confirmed by Le Parisien. The Élysée Palace has reportedly been in negotiations for several months with Qiddiya Investment Company, a subsidiary of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund PIF. During the Choose France summit in June 2026, Qiddiya’s CEO reportedly met with Emmanuel Macron. A memorandum of understanding at the time mentioned the desire to explore a major French project in the tourism and entertainment sectors.
The site under consideration is located in Courdimanche, near Cergy, where Mirapolis first opened its doors in 1987. The park was particularly known for its immense statue of Gargantua—standing several dozen meters tall—which housed an attraction. Despite its considerable ambitions, Mirapolis closed in 1991, weakened by financial difficulties and low attendance.
The project currently under discussion would not simply involve refurbishing the old facilities. It would involve a new complex combining attractions, hotels, and restaurants, with an investment likely to reach several billion euros. Its proximity to the RER A terminus at Cergy-le-Haut is certainly an advantage, although a facility of this scale would also raise significant issues regarding transportation, road access, and land-use planning.
What might the future park near Paris look like?
To get a sense of the project’s vision, look to Qiddiya City, near Riyadh. The Saudi group is already developing an official Dragon Ball park there with Toei Animation. Scheduled to open in 2024, the park is set to span over 500, 000 square meters and feature seven themed areas inspired by famous locations from the saga, including Kame House, Capsule Corporation, and Beerus’s planet. More than thirty attractions are planned, including five major experiences and a roller coaster housed inside a 70-meter-tall Shenron.
However, there is no way to confirm that the park in the Île-de-France region would be the same size or feature the exact same attractions. The specific details of the site, its scope, funding, and timeline have not been made public.
The project therefore remains in the realm of speculation. But the idea of seeing Mirapolis reborn under the Dragon Ball banneris far from a mere rumor born on social media: diplomatic and economic discussions have indeed been reported by several media outlets. It now remains to be seen whether they will actually come to fruition, or if this new dream of a theme park will join the long list of projects envisioned for this site since the demise of Gargantua.
