Leaving aside the Milan derby (played in the same stadium), the world’s closest derby will be played in Paris next year. With Paris FC having confirmed their ticket to Ligue 1 next year, the team will be moving from the Stade Charléty to the Stade Jean Bouin. So, 35 years later, the Paris derby is back, and will be contested between two teams just 44 metres apart.
Paris SG – Paris FC will be the world’s closest derby in 2025
On Friday evening, Paris FC, which has just been bought out by the Arnault family, made official their promotion to the top flight by beating Martigues. A return to the top flight almost 50 years later, it also marked the reappearance of the Paris derby. The two teams from the capital will be playing just one street and 44 metres apart , setting a new record. Indeed, only the Avellaneda derby in Argentina and the Dundee derby were closer, with a distance of 300 metres between the stadiums.
A new Parisian team in Ligue 1 and twice as many opportunities for Parisians to watch soccer. While all Paris FC matches were free at home last season, the line-up for the 2025-2026 season will be far more attractive. And with the new owner, a sizeable budget has been earmarked for the upcoming mercato, promising new arrivals and a brand-new squad.
We advise you to keep a close eye on the detailed championship calendar. That way, you’ll know when the two teams meet and can watch your team play away without having to leave Paris.
