This year, it’s impossible not to smell the scent of chestnuts and mulled wine in the aisles of the Christmas Market. To recreate the atmosphere of the traditional market at home, here’s Cyril Lignac’s recipe for spiced mulled wine! After the recipe for the Yule Log and the Galette des rois, this is THE perfect way to treat yourself at the end of the year!
Ingredients:
- A bottle of Bordeaux red wine
- 50 centilitres water
- One organic orange
- A knob of fresh ginger
- Ten cloves
- One cinnamon stick
- One vanilla pod
- Four tablespoons sugar
- Star anise for decoration
Steps in the mulled wine recipe:
Peel the ginger and cut into thirds. Rinse the orange under warm water, then cut it in half and prick the skin with cloves(the added bonus is that it adds a nice scent to your living room).
Place the water, 1/2 oranges, ginger, cinnamon and sugar in a saucepan.
Heat and add the vanilla seeds and whole pod.
Add the red wine and simmer for at least 20 minutes, without letting the liquid boil. Strain and serve piping hot. You can add star anise as a garnish, or leave the orange and cinnamon visible for a more visual effect.
