You thought they were outdated, almost buried! In this store in the 5th arrondissement, we’re reviving the good old audio cassettes, relics of the 80s! Head for Club K7, the first store to sell nothing but cassettes, and nothing but cassettes!
Glory to K7
The emblematic format of the ’80s, supplanted by the more modern CD in the early ’90s, the cassette has repeatedly been declared obsolete, if not dead! While the object lives in the overwhelming shadow of vinyl, a more prestigious medium, it still fascinates a few die-hards, nostalgic or newly converted, and there are more of them than you might think.
More fun and pop than the hype of black vinyl, audio cassettes haven’t signed their death warrant after all! In fact, sales of audio cassettes have been on the up since 2007, and have accelerated since 2021 (in the USA and UK). Another sign of the craze is the recent opening in Paris of Club K7, a temple erected to the glory of the magnetic tape format!
Club K7, the first store to sell only audio cassettes
“A record shop that doesn’t sell records”, “La K7 bande encore”! Club K7, the “first” store dedicated to the sale of audio cassettes, was opened in early 2025, and the space is sure to make passers-by and collectors‘ jaws drop. Cross the threshold to go back in time (or rewind it) and browse the hundreds of references that fill the little store!
In a décor that revisits the colorful pop aesthetic of the eighties, you’ll jump from classical to rock, rap, reggae , metal and French variety, and come across original copies and reissues of cult albums! With an eye firmly fixed on the past, Club K7 also knows how to put one foot in the present, highlighting recent releases (by Pete Doherty, Julien Doré or Billie Eillish) as well as the work of labels that value this format!
Not equipped to listen to cassettes? Club K7 also sells (overhauled) players, as well as new models!
