It’s an event we thought had disappeared for good from the Champs-Élysées. Nearly ten years after it was discontinued, the Christmas market is set to return to the famous Parisian avenue at the end of 2026. This summer, the City of Paris issued a call for proposals to set up a new Christmas village on the lower section of the Champs-Élysées, with the event tentatively scheduled to run from November 22, 2026, to January 4, 2027.
The previous market had left the avenue in 2017, and the City had decided at that time not to renew the organizer’s contract, primarily due to the perceived insufficient quality of the products on offer. Since then, the holiday lights have continued to attract visitors every winter, but the traditional chalets have never returned.
A New Christmas Market on the Champs-Élysées
This new version is intended to set itself apart from the previous one. The specifications call for a comprehensive market featuring chalets offering products related to the holiday season, with particular attention paid to their quality, origin, and the aesthetics of the installations. Integration into the avenue’s landscape is also among the criteria used to select the organizer.
A much-anticipated return for Christmas 2026 in Paris
While the market’s general outline appears to be taking shape, a few unknowns remain. The hours of operation, the number of chalets, the entertainment, and the list of exhibitors have not yet been announced. Most importantly, the administrative procedure published by the City specifies that it still reserves the right not to proceed with the project. The return is therefore well underway, but has not yet been definitively confirmed by a final municipal announcement.
If it does come to fruition, this new market will once again become one of the most popular holiday destinations in Paris, nestled between the Christmas lights of the Champs-Élysées and the Place de la Concorde.
