-Hey, is it Mardi Gras? Are you dressed up like a carnival? said Dame Ginette to Jacqouille and Messire Godefroy in Les Visiteurs! And yes, the festive tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages is back in Paris! This Sunday, March 2, is the date for the new edition of Carnaval de Paris, with the theme of love, peace and joy!
Mardi Gras: the return of Carnaval de Paris!
While we wait for the return of the Ganesh Festival, another colorful parade awaits you at the beginning of March. After the splendid Chinese New Year Parade, it’s the turn of the iconic Carnaval de Paris to bring a touch of color to the Parisian greyness. This Sunday, March 2, 2025, a merry procession will parade through the streets of Paris. Decked out in their most eccentric finery, participants will set off from Avenue Gambetta, in the capital’s 20th arrondissement.
The Paris Carnival 2025 theme and route
Every year has its own theme. Last year’s theme was “Poetry, Painting and Philosophy”. In 2025, “Love, Peace and Joy” are on the program, a bit like Love, Glory and Beauty, only better! It’s a free theme, which participants are of course not obliged to follow. Which costumes will be the wackiest, the most original, the most successful? Will you be a spectator, or take part in the procession? Get your best outfits out of the closet, fill your pockets with confetti and take part in the ultimate Parisian festive event. Are you ready for this joyous, free carnival parade?
