Every year, the American magazine Food and Wine compiles its list of the world’s best food markets. And in 2026, a small local market of our own climbed to fifth place: the Marché des Enfants Rouges. Founded in 1615, this covered market has everything to make you happy: twenty stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as sandwiches and flavors from all over the world… A must-visit inthe Marais district, which Parisians hold dear.
The Marché des Enfants Rouges: one of the best covered markets in the world
It is the oldest, and undoubtedly one of the most popular in Paris: the Marché des Enfants Rouges. A unique place, listed as a historic monument, that is truly worth the trip.

Under its magnificent glass roof, you’ll find everything a true foodie could want: fruits and vegetables, meat, cheese, fish… as well as a few delis offering exotic flavors, and small spots for a quick bite like the famous Alain-Miammiam and its amazing sandwiches. You can shop directly from local producers, but also sample cuisine from around the world: Japan, Morocco, Lebanon… the best of global cuisine comes together here.
No surprise, then, that this market, so dear to the hearts of Parisians, has made it into the top five! In fact , this year there’s another French entry: Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, which did even better by taking third place, just behind Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market and Borough Market, which took the top spot.
