Paris is a beautiful city, that much you know. But not every arrondissement is as bucolic as Emily in Paris. Thefts, assaults, insecurity… The daily Le Parisien based its study on official SSMSI (Service statistique ministériel de la sécurité intérieure) figures for 2023. The result? The 20ᵉ arrondissement takes the gold medal for Paname’s safest neighborhood…without, as you will see, shining any brighter than the others.
The 20ᵉ would be the safest arrondissement in Paris…
Paris may be known for fashion and gastronomy, but it doesn’t shine for its level of safety… According to Le Parisien, the overall average safety level in Paris is 7.2/20. Far from average!
To carry out this study, the daily based itself on Ministry of the Interior figures for 2023, and in particular on rates of assault, theft, burglary and drug-trafficking-type nuisances, and so on. From these four criteria, Le Parisien has compiled an overall score out of 20. And it’s the 20ᵉ arrondissement that comes out on top, with a score of 12.70/20. It is followed by the 14ᵉ, which comes out on top with a 12.01/20, and then the 15ᵉ arrondissement, which scores 11.66/20. Conversely, the 2ᵉ, 3ᵉ and 4ᵉ arrondissements end this ranking with catastrophic scores… Between 1.75 and 3/20.
Consistent with the rest: Paris under socialo-communist management comes in 106th among the safest French cities (’50k inhabitants),
and while the best arrondissement tops out at a mediocre 12.6/20, its mediocre mayor braggadociously congratulates himself on it#saccageparishttps://t.co/p6E8LZfvaq– Arsène – #FJW (@CitaroCapacityL) March 18, 2024
The study carried out by the newspaper explains that these last three arrondissements, which are very touristy, are more prone to theft and aggression than the others. This explains why their scores are so low compared to the others. The 20ᵉ arrondissement, on the other hand, is less popular with tourists. According to data from the French Ministry of the Interior, the town hall stands out for its responsiveness and efficient handling of various cases (thefts, assaults, nuisances).
A study not to be taken literally, of course! And what do you think?
